Summer 2011 II
On Monday, July 11, 2011 my daughter and I came to your facility wanting to adopt a kitten.  I just wanted to say how awesome of an experience that was for us.  It was difficult to pick just one, especially with your adopt-one-get-one special.  But we already had three at home, so we had to pass.

The reason for this email is to thank you for what you do for these animals.  We adopted an 8 week old kitten and named her Pixie.  It's still taking the others a bit of getting used to with her, but they are coming around.  The adoption process went very smooth and quick.  It took us awhile to pick which kitten we were going to take home because they were all so sweet!!!  I commend you for the cleanliness of your shelter.  I have told many people about you guys and will definitely be back when I am ready to adopt again.  We are buying some supplies for you and will drop stuff off there periodically.

Thank you again for helping my family grow.  I am attaching a picture of her.  Again hard to pick just one, as I have so many already!!!

Thanks again and keep up the good work!!

I’m sending this e-mail just to update you on our dog we adopted from there in March. His name was Zach when we got him and later changed it to Bailey. He has adjusted very well and gets along with our other dog (Doberman) perfectly. It was a match made in dog heaven, especially since we were having trouble finding a play mate for our dog, he’s very active and playful to say the least! There are a few things we are working on with him, such as chewing. This seems to be his biggest downfall. We have tons of toys & chews for the dogs, but Bailey seems to rather chew on rugs, shoes or whatever else he can get into. He usually does this during the day when we are both at work. I’m thinking he’s probably bored. If you have any suggestions on how to get him to chew on things he’s allowed to rather than the ones he’s not, I’m open to them. Also, when he has the opportunity he’ll charge out the door or gate to the back yard and take off. He usually doesn’t go far by the time we are able to catch him, but I’m afraid he’s going to get hit by a car or we won’t be able to find him. I don’t understand why he would want to run off when he has it made here. We have a big fenced in yard so he has plenty of room to run and play, we take him for walks 3-4x/week so I don’t know why he does this. When we are looking for him, have him in sight and as soon as he sees us he’ll take off in the other direction. He never comes to us, which is very aggravating. I’d appreciate any suggestions you may have on these two issues. Besides that, he’s a very loving, playful, adorable companion to us and our other dog. I would like to thank you for the good work you do and say that the Anna shelter is an amazing place! I always recommend you to anyone that is looking to adopt a pet. Attached are a few pictures of Bailey, he’s doing very well with us and I just wanted to share it with you. Thank you for everything!

As you can see, Lexis has adjusted very well to her new home.

Hi!  We got your message and just wanted to let you know that Ruby is doing wonderful!  She was very nervous and scared for a little while but now she is starting to trust us and know that we won't hurt her.  She adores the kids and even comes and barks at me when the baby wakes up from her nap!  She is a perfect fit for our family.  Thank you for everything.  We will send some pictures soon.
Love,
The Downey family

Hi,

I have another happy ending for you.

I adopted a kitten the end of April.  You might remember him as 3739, the rambunctious orange kitten with white socks and an eye infection.  I just wanted you to know, several months later, Rory's infection is long gone and he's a happy, healthy, spoiled, and still rambunctious 6 month old.  Thanks for introducing us!

Sincerely,
Cassy S.

Hi to the staff at the ANNA Shelter!
I just wanted to let everyone know that Zeus is doing great! We had a nice long weekend together, taking long walks and playing. Zeus got to meet all our "little people" (grandchildren) ages 3, 5, and 8. They all fell in love with Zeus and showered him with hugs and affection. He had his first bath and even that went pretty well. Then Tuesday it was back to work for us. I was worried about Zeus all day, but he did fine! He was very happy to see me come home and then we went for a nice long walk. He knows already when I get home and put my sneakers on we are going for a walk! He is very good on our walks and is getting to know his new neighborhood. He is sound to sleep on the floor right now and looking very cozy. Even our kitty is getting used to Zeus being around and they do fine together all day! We are so happy to have Zeus and glad that he likes us and has "adopted" us! I will keep you posted and send pictures - I have been taking lots of them.
Thanks so much for all your help!

Hi everyone, my name is Lucky Lady and my mom and dad took me to get a hot dog at the 38th St Valu Home sight that you had Saturday for a hot dog and to make a donation.  Just wanted to thank Steve and the girl who was with him (did not get her name) for giving us hot dogs and enjoyable company.  We stayed and talked with them for about an hour and I enjoyed all the attention I received from people stopping by to donate from your facility.  See, I was shot twice and left in the Allegheny Forrest and was rescued by a small breed rescuer in Tionesta, PA.  My mom and dad were the lucky adoptive parents that my rescuer thought I would be good for, but it turns out they needed me as much as I needed them.  I am a rescue also, so that's why we went to see your staff.  I had lots of fun and hope I helped collect some money for your shelter.  We were also wondering how Arrabella was doing, as my mom saw her in the newspaper and on your website, wondered if she found her forever home yet.  Please feel free to e-mail me back at my mom and dad's e-mail address.  Again, I had fun and hope to see you guys there again for some hot dogs.  Lucky Lady, and Ken and Liz Vendetti

Hi there--I thought I'd write with an update on the kitten we adopted from your shelter.  On August 29, we came in looking for a little sister for our sibling pair we'd gotten from a friend in May.  They are 6 months old and we'd gotten them current on all their needed vaccines and got them altered, so the time was right to add to the family so they could all grow up together.  I was specifically looking for a medium-haired, female tux kitty-mainly because I love the black and white coats on these kittens and also because I thought a female would be better received since our male is the alpha kitty around our house.

As my husband and I walked through looking in each cage, I noticed a sign on one of the side cages and sure enough, hiding behind that sign I saw a puff of black and white!  One of the volunteers plucked her out for me and there she was--the kitten of my dreams!  She'd been a stray and the worker said she'd been abused so naturally she was incredibly shy and did not like being held.  I knew it would take alot of work and time to bring her out of her shell and I'm happy to report that now our little "Fiona" is a purry, playful kitten who purrs like an engine when petted.  She loves being petted, just not being held-but we are working on this.
We put little Fifi in our laundry room with her own food and litter box, bedding and toys.  She used the litter box and ate like a champ from day one.  She also attached herself to our male, Ernie and he was such a noble and patient big brother, even cleaning her immaculately and allowing her to knead his belly and search for milk-he wasn't thrilled by it, but he tolerated it!  Ernie's sister, Lily was not at all welcoming- hissing and growling whenever Fifi walked by--but after the initial introductions and a gaffe on my part by allowing Fifi into the rest of the house WAY too soon, which led her to find some pretty creative hiding places and caused me no small amount of worry, I can say that she is now doing just fine and last night was a HUGE breakthrough as Fifi fell asleep on my chest, allowing me to pet her and all three cats curled up and slept on our bed last night together.
I waited a little over a week before bathing Fiona and then I did all three cats on the same day, along with ear cleaning and nail trimming.  Ernie and Lily had not been bathed since I got them in May, but I'd wanted to bathe them again since getting fixed, so I took a deep breath and one by one, each cat got the beauty treatment.  (I have the lacerations to prove it!)  Fiona had bilateral ear infections and I used Cerumene to loosen the gunk and I got so much hard, crusty dirt out of her ears and noticed a foul odor--sweet Ernie did too, as he has been grooming her each day, concentrating alot on her ears, which she tolerates briefly and then meows her displeasure because her little ears hurt.  I've been using organic Apple Cider Vinegar diluted with warm distilled water to irrigate them and then drying well and coating with pure olive oil and she has stopped shaking her head and scratching at her ears and they are finally clean.  She is a beautiful, sweet cat and I'm forever grateful to you all for rescuing her.  I will try to attach a few pictures of her so you can see that the shy, scratching little girl you knew has come into her own and become a part of our family--even Lily allows the kneading and milk-seeking and they curl up together--Fiona has been very smart in her dealings with these older kitties, ingratiating herself to them but at the same time, very brave and bold, marching right up to eat out of the same bowl! --why I put out 3 bowls, I'll never know because they seem to prefer sharing!  She eats raw meat the same as the other 2 without a problem, but she'll also eat the special grain-free canned food I supplement them with and she loves herring, mackerel, sardines, salmon and even dry food on occasion.  Did you have any idea you had such an incredible cat in your midst?  I feel very lucky to be owned by her.   Sincere thanks, Judy Greenwald aka the crazy cat lady!

Dear Anna Shelter Staff:
We would just like to give you an update on Maddie- we adopted her back in June. She is an absolute joy and a wonderful addition to our family. Her non-stop love brightens our days every single day. We couldn't be happier with her as a pet and are thrilled we picked her. She's doing WONDERFUL! She's still a little skittish around new people, but warms up very quickly... and the best part, she hasn't had any accidents and seems to be completely potty trained. Our parents commented when we first got her that she had "sad eyes"- you could tell she's been through a lot. But now- we're proud to report that her sad eyes are gone! :) We've rehabilitated her with never-ending love and care. We absolutely adore her & would like to thank the staff of the ANNA Shelter for their wonderful assistance in choosing her. Attached is a picture of her in our home- enjoy, and thank you again!!!

Sincerely,
Lindsay & Bethany Metz
